The award has come much to the surprise of residents and critics who deplore waste management in the City.

The City performed well on the Environmentally Sustainable City Index (ESCI) and was ranked third for adopting eco-friendly measures in handling and managing the City’s waste.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s initiative of segregating and recycling municipal solid waste through decentralised processing units at Yelahanka proved to be a scoring point.

Converting of waste into compost, after being segregated into organic and inorganic, was much appreciated.

“The inorganic waste was further segregated into recyclable plastic, paper, glass, rubber, metal and wood,” noted the Euro India Summit.

The role and participation of Residents’ Welfare Associations were commended.
