For children aged between six and 16 years, the festival will have feature films like Iran’s “The Other”, France’s “Tales of the Night”, China’s “The Star and The Sea”, Denmark’s “The Great Bear”.

“Stanley ka Dabba”, “I am Kalam” and “Chillar Party” are films from India which will be screened at the festival, organised once in every two year.

The best feature film will be awarded with Rs 2 lakh and a golden elephant trophy while one runner up will be awarded Rs 1 lakh and a trophy during the week-long festival.
The winner of the best director award will bag Rs 1.5 lakh and a golden elephant trophy while the best script award will carry Rs 1 lakh and a trophy.

Apart from these, the winner of the best feature film decided by the children’s jury will be awarded with the golden elephant trophy.

Best short film will be given Rs 1 lakh and a golden elephant trophy, the runner up for the same will be awarded with Rs 50,000 along with a golden elephant trophy.

The film chosen by the children’s jury and also the films directed by children will be given the prestigious golden elephant trophy.

Both national and international level films will have equal number of trophies and rewards to be given to the deserving films. “Bollywood has recently seen a spate of children films.

But we want to make it a regular feature for children between the age group of 6-16 years who are faced with a rage of reality television - introduce them to films which are more relevant, informative and educative for their age,” chairperson of Children’s Film Society, India (CFSI), Nandita Das said.

Focus on China

This year the festival is focused on China and will have a special section dedicated to showcasing films directed by China’s Children’s Films Association.

“There is a lot of focus on family films in our country, unlike in countries like China, Denmark, and Netherland who focus on children films,” she added.

For this year’s festival, the CFSI executive council will find Bollywood bigwigs like Vishal Bharadwaj, Gulzar, Mohan Agashe, Shilpa Rao and others to help encourage and promote a culture of children film-making in the industry.
