Agartala, Oct 26 (PTI)

In a bid to decentralise administration, the Tripura government today said they will carve out four new districts, six new subdivisions and five new blocks.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said this decision was taken yesterday in the meeting of council of ministers and a notification in this regard would be issued soon and the new administrative units would be effective from the next statehood day on January 21, 2012.

He said that the new districts would be Khowai comprising present Khowai and Teliamura subdivisions, Gomati district comprising Udaipur and Amarpur and newly created Karbook subdivisions, Sipahijala district comprising Sonamura, Bishalgarh and newly created Jampui Jala subdivisions and Unokoti district comprising Kailasahar and newly created Kumarghat subdivision.

The new subdivisions to be created are Mohanpur, Jirania, Jampui Jala, Kumarghat and Karbook. The five new blocks will be Jubaraj Nagar, Jolaibari, Shilacherri, Lefunga and Durga Chowmuhuni in Salema areas.

Making this announcement the chief minister said that Left Front government has been working consistently to decentralise administration to take it to the grassroot level.

"Our emphasis is always on decentralisation to make the administration more responsive to public requirements and interests, that is why we have gone for this reorganisation," he said.
