Woman shot dead; girl raped at gunpoint

Sharmishta, wife of Satish Kumar, was fired at by the attackers who came on a motorcycle yesterday, they said, adding she died on the spot.

Police are investigating the case.
In another incident, a girl was allegedly raped at gunpoint by a youth at Umerpur village.
The victim had gone to relieve herself when she was dragged by the youth into a sugarcane field, where he raped her, police said.

The girl was found unconscious, they said, adding a case has been registered and the victim sent for a medical examination.

Meanwhile, the body of another girl was found in Ganga canal at Khatoli.
The victim's throat had been slit, police said.
