The City, that usually generates 4,800 tonnes of garbage everyday, is supposed to have produced about 7,000 tonnes of garbage daily in the last two days, said Palike engineers.

The sanitation workers and garbage contractors had a tough time to keep the City clean. The contractors had to hire more workers and deploy more trucks to transport the waste to the landfills on the outskirts of the City.

According to Palike sources, much of the garbage was from areas like JC Road, Ulsoor, Kurubarahalli, K R Market, pockets of Shivajinagar, Bharathinagar, Chamarajpet and surrounding areas.

What added to the woes of the Palike workers was the fact that rag-pickers had taken a festival break in the last two days, thus putting additional burden on them.
