Last Updated 29 October 2011, 19:12 IST

Sampangi was remanded in judicial custody on Friday, as the Special Lokayukta Court cancelled his bail till the time the first two witnesses in the case deposed before the court in a free and fair manner.

Though the second witness B P Arun Kumar completed testifying and underwent cross- examination, both the prosecution and the defence sought more time to question the main witness H M Farooq.

The hearing will continue on Monday.

While giving his testimony, Farooq detailed how he was directed by the second accused,  sub-inspector Mushtaq Pasha, to meet MLA Sampangi when he was facing trouble in a land dispute. Farooq also said that Sampangi originally demanded Rs 10 lakh to settle the dispute for him and later whittled it down to Rs 5 lakh.

The material evidence in the case like audio cassettes with voice recordings of Sampangi asking for a bribe and CDs were also submitted.

Sampangi was trapped by the Lokayukta police in January 2009 for accepting a bribe a Rs 5 lakh from Farooq, a businessman, at the Legislator’s Home to sort out a land dispute.
