Bankers vie to strike deal with new millionaire
Bihar crorepati
Even as the people of Bihar are waiting to accord a grand welcome to Sushil Kumar, who became the first contestant to win Rs 5 crore in the popular game show ''Kaun Banega Crorepati,'' bankers and insurance agents are making a beeline for his home town, Motihari, with a plethora of investment suggestions.
“Not only banking people and commission agents, but friends, acquaintances and even strangers are also flocking our mud-cum-semi-brick work house just to know when Sushil will be back and what will he do with the hefty amount of prize money,” said Sunil, Sushil’s elder brother.
Sushil Kumar, the 29-year-old computer operator from Bihar’s Champaran district, works for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act under the District Rural Development Authority, for a nominal salary of Rs 6,000.
His impoverished family, till date, has had just one bank account.
When the news of the Rs 5-crore jackpot spread, representatives from all major banks, including HDFC, SBI, PNB and CBI, visited Sushil’s family to find out what he will do with approximately Rs 3.5 crore (which he will receive in hand after deducting income tax).
They want him to invest in their respective banks and are offering him an array of lucrative schemes/concessions. Local BJP legislator Pramod Kumar has written to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to make Sushil the brand ambassador of Bihar, as the youth has brought laurels to the State. The MLA has also urged Nitish to offer him a suitable job in the State Government office. The move has been supported by Sugarcane Minister Awadhesh Prasad Kushwaha, “I will take up this issue with Nitish ji,” said Kushwaha, who is also from Champaran.
At the same time, sources close to Sushil’s family said the “crorepati” is still in Mumbai with his wife Seema. He may pursue his dream of a better career when he is back.
