Gadkari visits jailed partymen in Tihar
Top BJP leaders continued their visits to the Tihar jail here on Monday with party president Nitin Gadkari himself going inside the jail premises to meet two former party MPs and Sudheendra Kulkarni.
These jailed leaders, seen as whistleblowers by the BJP, have been chargesheeted by the Delhi police in connection with the cash-for-vote scam.
“It is beyond comprehension why bail is not being granted despite being chargesheeted,” Gadkari said after coming out of the jail.
Gadkari said his party would expose those who had acted against the “whistleblowers.” He alleged that Ahmed Patel, Political Secretary to Congress president, was involved in the scam.
“When the BJP gets a chance, we will expose them and send them to Tihar,” Gadkari said.
He also stated that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have become “Congress Bureau of Investigation” and quipped that the agency should shift its office to Congress headquarters.
Several other BJP leaders, including Advani, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, have already visited their colleagues in Tihar. Advani has repeatedly sought the release of his former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni.
On July 22, 2008, three party MPs—Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahabir Singh Bhagora and Ashok Argal—waved bundles of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government. Besides two BJP former MPs (Kulaste,Bhagora), Kulkarni was also arrested for their alleged involvement in the scam.
The BJP maintains that its MPs had acted as whistleblowers and exposed attempts to buy MPs to win the trust vote.
Another accused in the case, Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, has been freed on bail on health grounds.
Gadkari said his party has full faith on the courts and hope they would do justice on the issue.
