Elephants’ day out in Dubare
It was a festival with a difference at Dubare Elephant camp on Monday. It was an attempt to bring together people and elephants. As many as 12 male, five female elephants and three calves participated in the festival and enthralled the tourists. The tourists had an opportunity to have a closer look at elephants, touch them and spend some gala time with pachyderms.
The elephants played football under the leadership of 47-year-old Vikrama which had taken part in Jamboo savari at Mysore. They took part in March fast, spraying water at each other and played various other games. The tourists fed the elephants with sugarcane. MLCs M C Nanaiah and Basavaraj Horatti welcomed the elephants by garlanding them.
Speaking on the occasion, Nanaiah said Ane Habba plays a vital role in bridging the gap between people and elephants and developing cordial relation between the two.
He said the State government which spends crores for observing Mysore Dasara should take measures to improve the standard of living of Kavadis who look after the elephants.
MLC Veeranna Mathikatti, Zilla Panchayath President Ravi Kushalappa, Wildlife division Chief Conservator of Forest B K Singh, Chief Conservator of Forest Kodagu district Millo Tyago and others were present.
