Giving it their best shot
Exam time
It’s the last week of examinations in most colleges and the scene at the Kristu Jayanti College campus is no different.
This college has its fair share of students who make a time-table and follow the same throughout the year. But there are also a few others who have made it a habit to study only at the last minute.
It’s been a little more than two weeks since the exams began and students say that they can’t wait for the exams to get over and confess that they have made elaborate holiday plans.
Metrolife interacted with a few students to understand how they prepared for their exams and their plans thereafter.
Thanks to the semester system, most of the students say that they have tests, assignments and practicals throughout the year and this keeps them on their toes.
Kazhia Sharieff, a second year BBM says that she concentrates in class and does her homework regularly. This helps her during the exams. “There’s no question of studying at the last minute. I recall what’s taught in the class and back it up with examples. This surely fetches me more marks,” explains Kazhia.
Abhilash Vijay, another degree student, says that he studies only at the last minute. “I can never prepare in advance for my exams. It has always been last minute and yes, it is stressful. The fear doesn’t seep in until the last minute. I have done pretty well except for two subjects and have one more paper to go,” he says.
Abhilash will return to Bahrain to spend his vacations with his parents. “I can’t wait to get back home,” he adds.
Principal Fr Sebastian Thekkedath says that the faculty takes a lot of effort to train the students for the final examinations.
“There are two internal exams in a semester where the students work out the old question papers. This gives them an idea of what to expect during the finals,” explain Fr Sebastian.
The worked out answers are discussed in class. He adds that there are special coaching classes for those who are academically weak. “This ensures that there is no malpractice among the students,” he concludes.
