New office-bearers of Youth Congress take charge
The office-bearers of the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee elected on October 15 officially took charge at a ceremony organised by the party here on Wednesday.
The newly-elected president Rizwan Arshad, vice president Priyank Kharge and seven general secretaries of the State Committee were handed over charge by the Indian Youth Congress’ national president Rajiv Satav. Office-bearers of Lok Sabha constituency committees and presidents of the Assembly committees also took charge.
Addressing the gathering, Arshad said a new brigade of youngsters should be brought into the mainstream politics, for which it was essential to have competitive Youth Congress teams at the grassroots. He said his party would intensify its political activism against corruption.
Satav said training camps would be organised in Karnataka to train about 37,000 office-bearers.
He also said that performance of office-bearers would be measured through a programme called ‘pehchan,’ based on which they would be given further responsibilities.
Congress leader D K Shivakumar, who had batted for actor Ramya to contest the elections, rued that she could not make a mark in the elections because of criticism from people within the party.
“Ramya didn’t want to fight the elections for selfish reasons. She wanted to take forward Rahul Gandhi’s dreams and aspirations for the party”, he said.
