Drinking water crisis eases in Srinivaspur
Borewells come to taluk’s aid
Drinking water crisis will no longer be a headache to the Town Municipal Council. For, the TMC is contemplating to sink in 10 more borewells in the taluk. A proposal seeking funds for the purpose has already been submitted to the government.
With 30,000 population, the taluk has had its share of water woes. While new measures aim to address the problem, people in some parts of the town are still not lucky to get water everyday.
However, the problem is being addressed on priority, said Town Municipal Council president S Srinivasappa. Except for irregular power, supplying drinking water will not be a problem, he added.
Water collection
According to Town Municipal Council chief officer K Jagadish, water is being collected from 55 borewells (of 74 borewells) and is stored in three overhead tanks to be supplied to the town through pipes.
Yet, 19 of the borewells have already gone dry.
Target of supply
Jagadish further said, although, the civic body has set a target of supplying an average of 70 litre water per day to an individual, it has been able to provide only 52 litre as of now. Only people in 15 wards (of 23 wards) have been fortunate to get water one hour everyday. In rest of the wards, water is supplied every alternate days.
At least 20 workers are managing the drinking water supply. They have been cautioned against loss of water, he added.
