According to an official communique from the Navy, INS Sukanya on Thursday, while patrolling along the IRTC (Internationally Recognised Transit Corridor) off western coast, spotted five skiffs moving at a high-speed towards the merchant vessels.
Two of the skiffs, spotting the warship INS Sukanya veering towards them, reversed and managed to escape, however, three of the boats were intercepted and Navy sharp-shooters rappelled onto the rogue boats with the search revealing six AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines and 300 rounds of ammunition.

Apart from firearms, the 26 pirates had stocked themselves with a large quantity of fuel, LPG cylinders, communication  and navigation equipment and ladders and grapnels used for boarding the targeted ship.
