Defending himself
This teacher turned serial killer is now his own advocate as he is defending himself. The courtroom where Judge Linganna Gowda Jantli was hearing the case was full as the proceedings began and young advocates were surprised at the manner in which the accused was cross-questioning the witnesses. The lodge cashier Kantharaj said “Mohan along with a woman had come to the lodge on June 17, 2009. He had changed his name in the register. On the following day, he along with the woman wearing new dress left the lodge at 5.45 am. After 15 minutes, he came to the lodge alone. Within half an hour, he had checked out of the lodge.”
When Mohan asked the witness whether he knew where Bantwal rural police station was, Kantharaj fumbled in the beginning.
However, later he said that on the direction of Puttur ACP, he visited the station. Manjunath who runs a canteen at Subhash Circle in Hassan was the second witness. Charan Kumar of Bantwal was the third witness. The trial will continue on Wednesday.
The hearing in the Anitha case will continue this week, and hearing in the Leelavathi and Sunanda murder cases will be taken up later. The trial with regard to murder of these three women will continue till December 8.
