Raids on hookah joints
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) seized various tools used in hookah trade and also flavours in marijuana, all worth Rs 1.5 lakh, after it raided six bars and restaurants, canteens and eateries in Chickpet on Wednesday.
The raids, conducted by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s Joint Commissioner (South Zone) and the Health Department, revealed that several hookah joints operated without a proper licence.
They were authorised to sell only food items, but had set up hookah parlours in violation of the rules.
Their customers were mainly schoolchildren and college students, the BBMP said in a statement.
