State Govt to relax norms to lift sand

The State government has decided to relax norms to tide over the problems, due to the non-auctioning of sand stacked up in six districts.
In a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary S V Ranganath on Thursday, a decision was taken to relax the norms and allow those with no permits to lift sand from the identified blocks and bring it to the yards of the Public Works Department (PWD).
The district committees, headed by the deputy commissioners, will fix the rates for the sand brought to the PWD yards.
Transporters with permits are then allowed to buy sand from there by paying an amount fixed by the committee, plus royalty to the PWD and the Transport departments across the State.
