Mysore police accord warm farewell to DG & IG

Neelam Achyut Rao recalls his foundation training in the city

Director general and inspector general of police Neelam Achyut Rao was on Monday accorded a warm farewell by the police here. The top officer is due to retire from services on November 30.

DH PhotoOverwhelmed by the parade presented by the policemen at the grounds attached to City Armed Reserve (CAR) police  force, the DG and IG lauded the men in khaki for practicing it within a short period of time. “The rain god was about to play spoilsport, but had to stop owing to the parade that was beautifully presented,” said the officer in his note of appreciation.

Beginning

Recalling his tryst with the city of palaces Mysore, the officer disclosed that he had foundation training here after joining the service 35 years ago. “The city helped me learn the nitty gritty of the job and it’s due to the practical training received here I could successfully perform many roles in my career”, the officer said.

Heaping praises on the city police too for the successful conduct of Dasara, the officer said appreciation came in from across the nation. The State police have been deploying newer methods in prevention and detection of crime, besides showing equal care in dealing with sensitive situations.

Meritorious service

Police commissioner Sunil Agarwal said, in his career spanning more than three decades the DG and IG had held various posts from assistant superintendent of police to the incumbent till date. Hailing from Godavari district in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh state, Neelam Achyut Rao is a 1976 batch officer. He is a MBA holder besides being the recipient of President’s Medal for meritorious services in 2004 among other medals he has been conferred.

A total of 13 battalions of police-district armed reserve (DAR), city armed reserve (CAR), KSRP, Krishnaraja, Narasimharaja and Devaraja sub-divisions, traffic, women’s, mounted to name a few took out a colourful march past as part of the parade.

DCP (CAR) Prabhashankar was the commander, while ACP (CAR) Channaiah was his deputy.

Jayashree wife of Achyut Rao, IGP (Southern range) A S N Murthy, Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) director Amar Kumar Pandey, SP Manish Karbiker, MCC commissioner K S Raykar, Vice-chancellor of University of Mysore V G Talawar were prominent among others who were present.
