Katta seeks regular bail

Last Updated 30 November 2011, 19:20 IST

Katta has already been granted interim bail for three months by the High Court to seek treatment for his cancer. The High Court had directed him to seek the permission of the Lokayukta Court if he wanted to travel abroad for medical treatment. Katta had earlier indicated that he might have to travel to the Royal Free Hampstead Hospital in London for stem cell treatment for his non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

The present bail application refers to the recent Supreme Court decision in the 2G case stating that anyone accused of offences punishable with seven years of imprisonment can be granted bail. As his bail is primary for his medical treatment Katta has sought that his plea not be clubbed with the that of his son Katta Jagadish and Itasca managing director S V Srinivas.

Katta is the main accused in the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board land scam. The Lokayukta police on July 8 had submitted a charge sheet to the Special Lokayukta Court against Naidu and his son for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 87 crore to allot 325 acres in Bandikodigehalli to Itasca Software Development Company. The Court adjourned the matter to December 2.
