ONGC clinch Shastri title
ONGC won the 22nd Lal Bahadur Shastri men’s hockey tournament after defeating star-studded Air India 4–2 on penalty shootout in an exciting final on Saturday.
The scoreline was 2–2 at the end of regulation and extra time. In penalty shootout, Air India players Girish Pimple, Somanna Pradhan, Prabodh Tirkey and Joga Singh missed the target while Pramod and Akash scored for ONGC. This is the second consecutive title win for the Nehru Cup winners ONGC.
During regulation time, both the teams got almost equal opportunities in the match witnessed by sports minister Ajay Maken.
Air India, coached by Dhanraj Pillay, came back from behind twice. For ONGC, both the goals were scored by Akash while Somanna (30th) and Vinod Pillay (63rd) netted for Air India.
