Oscar shows the way
Yoga helps for the development of physical as well as mental health.
Initiatives will be taken to introduce compulsory Yoga education in all the schools, thus giving the equal status of sports activities, said Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes.
He was delivering valedictory address at the 36th national Yogasana Championship held at Dharmasthala on Saturday. “It is possible to lead a healthy and long life by practicing Yoga everyday. From my own experience, I have learnt that Yoga has cured by knee ache. Despite Yoga having its base in India, it has become more popular in USA and Europe. Yoga should gain vast popularity in India too,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel gave a call not to commercialise Yoga practise.
Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade who presided over the programme said that the seers and Rishis could achieve the spiritual experience through Yoga and meditation.
“Yoga would give us peace and happiness in life. It would cleanse our mind and body,” he opined.
In the five days conference, over 850 Yoga enthusiasts from 26 states participated. The team from West Bengal won the overall championship. Haryana team won the first runner-up and team Maharashtra won second runner-up prize.
