Safe travel is railways mantra

Mysore, Dec 3, DHNS:

6 Jan Sadharan ticket booking seva counters opened

With the death of a woman while boarding a train still fresh in mind, the South Western Railways (SWR), Mysore division, has undertaken an awareness campaign at the city railway station on Saturday, urging passengers to travel safely.

The railways staff led by senior divisional commercial manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu joined hands with scouts and guides and distributed pamphlets to passengers giving them tips for safe travel.

Speaking to Deccan Herald at the launch of the day-long campaign, Sadhu said passengers arrive at the last moment to board a train. Instead, they should reach at least half an hour earlier so that they can easily buy ticket and board the train without any hassles.

“There are umpteen number of trains to Bangalore. More than 10 trains ply to Bangalore everyday. Even if the passengers miss one train, they will get another train soon,” he added. Mentioning that the railways has had opened six Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevak (JTBS) counters in the city, he said tickets would be available in these centres at an additional cost of Re 1.

JTBS counters have been opened at Kuvempunagar, Siddharthanagar, Vijayanagar, Gokulam, Chamundipuram and Udaygiri.

Four more such counters would be opened in a couple of days, he added.

Discussing the availability of advance tickets, he said unreserved tickets would be available three days prior to the date of journey for distances more than 200 kilometre. However, it isn’t available for distances below 200 kilometre. With the distance from Mysore to
Bangalore being less than 200 kilometre, Sadhu said a proposal had been sent to the railway board urging them to provide permission to give tickets at least one day in advance.

At present, the railways has four counters for unreserved tickets, an additional counter is operational for Chamundi Express. Additional counters would be opened once the staff strength is increased, Sadhu said.

Back entrance

The South Western Railway (SWR), Mysore Division, is planning to allow passengers to enter the city railway station through the back gate. The entrance would be near the Railway Museum, located opposite to the entrance of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI). Also two unreserved ticketing counters are being planned at the back gate entrance. It would be opened to the public from December 15.
