B’lore blast accused, smart operator

Ashpreet Sethi, New Delhi, Dec 3, DHNS:

Ahmad Siddi Bappa, known also by the names Yasin Bhatkal and Shahrukh, one of the country's most wanted terrorists with his resume boasting of masterminding several terror-blasts across the country, including the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore last year, has come out to be a smooth operator even in personal relations.

His wife Zahida and mother-in-law Mehajani Khanum, with whom Bappa stayed at their house in the Okhla area of south east Delhi after marriage, had no clue about the man’s past or his profession. “Whatever he told us has turned out to be a bundle of lies. My daughter is in a state of shock and is ill ever since the news about Bappa’s involvement in terror activities reached us,” Khanum told Deccan Herald on Saturday.

Khanum's husband Mohammad Irshad Khan has been arrested for terror activities while Bappa managed to give the police the slip. The Delhi Police have announced a reward of Rs15 lakh to help nab Bappa.

Bappa married Zahida, Khanum’s eldest daughter, in April this year. “My husband Irshad told me that Bappa worked in his factory. He also stayed in our house on rent and later, when we married off Zahida to him, they both lived on the first floor of our house as he had no place to live,” said Khanum.

Keen on marriage
Her husband was very keen on marriage while she had reservations. Khamum said Bappa lied about his name, his past and profession. And Zahida had no inkling about his real activities.

“I am sure my husband is innocent and must have been lured by this man whom we called Shahrukh,“ said Zahida.

“My daughter knows nothing and he hardly spoke to her,” said Khanum.
Khanum and Irshad have10 children. With Irshad, the sole earning member of the family, now in the police custody, Khanum faces an uphill task of bringing up their children now. “I am left with just Rs 1,000,” she said.

Allegation on police
She alleged that the police took away Rs 30,000 kept in the house when they came looking for Bappa. However, the Delhi Police have rubbished the allegationtargeted against them.
