Jaya urges PM to deploy central forces at dam site
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Sunday night urged the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct the deployment of Central forces at the Mullai Periyar dam site "immediately" to ensure adequate protection to the structures.
In the wake of some incidents of "mob vandalism" with backing of some political parties in Kerala since Saturday at the dam, Jayalalithaa expressed grave concern at the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board facility at the dam being damaged by the vandals.
Shooting off her third letter to Dr. Singh on this issue tonight, Jayalalithaa urged that in view of the violent activities, the Prime Minister should order "deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the dam site, to avert any man-made catastrophic consequences immediately."
