55th Mahaparinirvana divas of Ambedkar observed

The programme was jointly organised by district administration, department of Kannada and Culture and district social welfare department.

H T Chandrashekar, additional deputy commissioner inaugurated the programme offering a floral tribute to the portrait of Dr Ambedkar. The principles laid down in the constitution are of the highest  standards compared to any other constitution in the country. Dr Ambedkar’s vision and principles, if implemented in the policies of the government would eradicate all the evils and poverty from the country, he said.

On the occasion, Devaraj, an assistant professor with the first grade college in the town said Dr Ambedkar showed the countrymen the society, the real social set up of the nation.

He praised the country for the truth and ahimsa it followed, but criticised the exploitation of the lower and underprivileged classes of people. At least 20 crore people are under appalling conditions in the country, Dr Ambedkar had told in his younger days. “We need to introspect whether the country has accepted the principles and advocacy of Dr Ambedkar in its full spirit to this day,” he said.

Deputy director of food and civil supplies S E Mahadevappa, DDPI Bellashetty, joint director of agriculture department Shivamallu, Dy SP Muthuswamy Naidu and others were present.

Various organisations observed the Parinirvana Divas in the town.

The main event was held near the deputy commissioner’s office where the district administration paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr Ambedkar at Cauvery Vana.

Deputy commissioner P C Jaffer garlanded Ambedkar’s statue. SP Koushalendra Kumar, tahasildar Rajendra Prasad, additional deputy commissioner Jayanna, additional SP Rajanna and others were present.

Dalit forums staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s here on Tuesday  observing Ambedkar Parinirvana day as ‘Made made snana’ opposing day.

After offering flowers to the statue of Dr Ambedkar in front of the office of the deputy commissioner, they demanded that the practise of ‘Made made snana’ be banned.

The protesters said the practise is opposed to the constitution and blamed the district administration for being unable to prevent it.

Participating in the protest, artiste K T Shivaprasad said protest would be held across the state demanding the government to ban ‘Made made snana’.

He urged the opposition parties to take a stand opposing the issue.

Various Dalit leaders including B P Jayaram, K Eerappa, H C Puttaraju, Krishnadas and others were present.

The Federation of State ST Employees Associations organised a debate competition for school students to mark the Parinirvana Divas. Vice-president of the federation Jayaprakash recalled the contributions of Dr Ambedkar for the upliftment of the backward classes and dalits.

Federation vice-president Shankar, honorary presidnt B S Chandrashekar, C K Mahesh, K G Devadas, K K Kamani, writer Saraswathi and others were present.
