Chikmagalur district better in info dispensation
State Information Commission has disposed 30,000 applications in six years
State Information Commission has disposed over 30,000 applications over the last six years while another 12,000 applications are yet to be cleared, said State Information Commissioner Dr Shekar D Sajjanara.
Addressing a news conference on Thursday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office he said that as many as 600 officials who have purposely delayed the dispensation of information to applicants have been punished and a penalty of Rs 40 lakh has been collected so far.He said that the Commission will continue to take action against those officials who delay in responding to the applications seeking information, give out incorrect information or harasses the applicants for some reason.
“Penalty will be imposed on the officials for the first two times. If mistakes continue then the Department will take up inquiry and make recommendation for strict action. Many officials have already faced disciplinary action because of their negligent attitude,” he said adding that the Commission receives 150 complaints per day pertaining to Revenue Department, Public Works Department, Police, Town Municipal Councils, City Municipal Councils, ZPs, GPs etc.
“We should answer the applicants within 30 days failing which the officials can be imposed penalty of Rs 250 to Rs 25,000,” he said including Bangalore, Tumkur, Raichur, Gulbarga and Kolar are some of the other district from where the Commission has been received lots of complaints.
He lauded the officials in Chikmagalur for disposing the applicants on time and not delaying the process of providing information.
He said that as many as 57 complaints have come from Chikmagalur district, which willl be settled in two days. The applicants that had come in June will be taken up for discussion, he informed.
