No charge for locals at Narepalli tollgate
Traffic was affected for sometime at the Narepalli tollgate as members of the taluk unit of Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha Samithi staged a protest demanding free vehicle entry for locals.
DSS taluk convener G L Ramanjinappa said: “The authorities can collect toll from vehicles coming from far-off places. But they should exempt residents from nearby villages from paying toll.”
District Deputy Superintendent Khahandki arrived at the tollgate and heard the grievances of the protesters.
The protesters submitted an appeal to the toll plaza contractor, Sudhakar, saying they must follow the government rules which specifies that locals do not have to pay toll.
Accepting the appeal, the contractor assured the protesters that toll would not be collected from locals henceforth.
The protest affected traffic for a while at the tollbooth. Gudibande circle inspector Shanthakumar, Bagepalli sub-inspector J N Anand Kumar, PSI (Crime) K M Srinivasappa led of team of police who strived the control the traffic situation and maintain peace.
