<p>A sea of Kannada lovers is expected to arrive in the town, which is hosting the 78th <br />Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.<br /><br />Surrounded by lush green paddy fields and hill range, Gangavati has the perfect settings for a literary conference. Kannada flags and banners of the Sammelana are on display everywhere, and people of the region are enthusiastically waiting for the inauguration of the Sammelana Friday morning. <br /><br />Along with its mythological and historical background, Gangavati taluk is all set too add another feather to its cap in the form of the Sammelana.<br /><br />Probably for the first time, all arrangements of the Sammelana have been made at one place. The main stage, the parallel stage, book stalls, registration counter, media centre and food arrangements have all been made on around 150 acres of land at the Channabasavaswamy Taluk Stadium in the premises of the APMC. <br /><br />Preparations are on to serve food to around two-and-a-half lakh people who are expected to attend the event. The main stage has been named after Gandugali Kumararama. Participants are being accommodated in the schools and homes in the town.<br /><br />The magic number<br /><br />During the 78th Sammelana, the number ‘78’ will receive special treatment. A total of 78 women, carrying Poornakumbha, will participate in the procession of Sammelana president, C P Krishnakumar, which will be taken out from Sai Baba Mandir to the venue at 9:30 am. <br /><br />Artistes and tableaux from different parts of the State will take part in the procession. A team of 78 singers will present Nada Geete and Raitha Geete at the inaugural ceremony. <br /><br />Across the town, 78 mahadwaras have been erected, and 78 books will be released during the meet. <br /><br />Issues<br /><br />The Sammelana will discuss various issues related to ‘Kannada life’, and separate sessions have been organised to debate matters related to Koppal district and people’s movements in the region. Poets’ meets, humour show and felicitation to eminent personalities have been organised.<br /><br />Issues like the proposed closure of Kannada schools lacking adequate student strength and problems of border areas are expected to find a place in Krishnakumar’s address. The demand for amendment to Article 371 to provide special status to Hyderabad-Karnataka region will be discussed on the main stage. A resolution in this regard will be placed before the Sammelana.<br /><br />Around 300 artistes will perform in the cultural programmes to be held on the three days. Classical and folk arts will be the highlights.</p>
