KSRTC bags Centre’s award fourth time in a row
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) became the first State-run agency to bag the ‘Award for Excellence’ in the field of urban transportation from the Union Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) for the fourth time in a row.
This time, the award was bestowed for the Corporation’s efforts in increasing public transport ridership in medium and small towns, especially Tumkur and Hassan.
In Tumkur, the KSRTC has managed to attain 50,000 commuters within just 10 months; the figure pertains to 20 per cent of total passenger trips in the City.
The introduction of customised City buses was started in Tumkur and Hassan in February this year, with 10-minute frequency and timing and GPS-based technology which allows for real time updates on the location of the bus.
The award was presented to R Ashoka, Minister for Transport, Karnataka and Gaurav Gupta, MD KSRTC, by Union Minister for Urban Development, Kamal Nath, in New Delhi on Tuesday.
