Lecturers, principals stage protest in districts
‘Salaries paid to PU and degree college faculty should be on par’
PU principals and lecturers launched an indefinite strike in the districts of Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajanagar on Friday demanding hike in salaries.
They demanded that salaries paid to PU college faculty and degree colleges should be on par as they have the same qualification.
Earlier, there was no such differentiation between PU and degree college faculty. But, a wide disparity has emerged in the recent times with respect to the salaries. Despite repeated requests to the government, it has failed to undertake any proactive measures, they said.
They demanded that the pay scale for lecturers should be between 14,050-25,050 and 18,150-26,925 for principals.

commissioner’s office in Hassan on Friday morning.
More than 500 lecturers participate in the protest demonstration.
While the classes were affected due to the stir by the lecturers, the protesters said that they would conduct extra classes during holidays to compensate for the inconvenience.
In Mandya
Lecturers and principals staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Mandya on Friday. Former MLA K T Srikantegowda, association district unit president M Ramakrishnaiah, secretary Hanumanthaiah, Rangadasegowda, H Muthaiah were present.
They demanded that the rule to appoint only those with B Ed degree for PU colleges should be scrapped.
Activists of Students Federation of India (SFI) supported the protest taken out by the lecturers and principals.
Shivaraju, Rajendra Singh Babu, Nandish, Jayalakshmi and Sheela participated in the protest.
In Chamarajanagar
PU college principals and lecturers took out a rally from the tourist home passing through double road and culminated at the deputy commissioner’s office. The protesters said that a demonstration was held during PU exam evaluation in April. But the government has failed to heed to demands of the PU lecturers.
They said the protest would continue until the chief minister would conduct a meeting to discuss the issue.
State PU college lecturers association district unit president Bangaranayak, principal’s association president Siddaraju, D S Krishnamurthy, Manikyam, G B Mahesh and others were present.
