Dream homes may come crashing down
Notices served on house owners at illegal layouts; residents vary of future
For most of the residents here life hasn’t been smooth for the past few days. Their dream house, that took shape after years of hard work is on the verge of slipping out of their hands.
Eventually it may be reduced to rubbles. This is the pathetic story of 2,000 odd people owning houses at Giridarshini Layout, Srirampura, Belavadi, Srirampura, Nachanahalli, Metagalli, Alanahalli among others in different survey numbers. Individual notices served on the dwellers here has left them in lurch. Their only fault is the house built on land that wasn’t either alienated or required procedures were followed before developing the same.
It is illegal, according to the rules. Tahsildar Manjunath Swamy who confirmed the news of serving the notices on such people to Deccan Herald said, the Giridarshini Layout has been developed on four different survey numbers.
According to section 96 of Land Revenue Act, it is only after alienation a land could be developed for residential purposes. However, it is given a go by in all the afore said layouts.
It has been clearly mentioned in the notice that the owners of the houses have to reply to the notice within 10 days of serving the same.
They have to rectify to the government. It is only if the government wills to legalise, they will be allowed to pay the fine amount to regularise the property. However, the chances of government acceding to the request is bleak, said another official source.
As a result the owners of the properties here stand chances of losing the property for no fault of theirs. They are paying for the folly committed by those land developers, who made windfall after selling sites to many.
On Friday, a group of anxious residents from Giridarshini Layout petitioned deputy commissioner P S Vastrad seeking his intervention. With tension writ large on their faces, they were found discussing about their fate, at the park opposite to the office of deputy commissioner.
