Funds released for drought relief work: Sadananda Gowda
'Rs 30 crore released for projects in Hassan district'
Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda said funds have already been released for drought relief work in the district. The measures taken by the government to tackle the situation would be discussed in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, he added.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the town on Sunday, Gowda said: “Rs 180 crore has been released to several districts to undertake work, which require immediate attention. After becoming the chief minister, I have visited nearly all the districts except three. I will visit Hassan soon and hold a meeting with officials.”
Mentioning that he had already held discussions with MLA H D Revanna about drought relief work, he said Rs 30 crore has already been granted for the district.
Shiradi road to be repaired
“I have received information about the condition of Shiradi Ghat road. Whenever I visit Mangalore, people urge me to repair the roads. The repair work would be completed by January 15,” he said.
Confident of winning
Gowda claimed he would surely win the MLC election scheduled for Monday as all MLAs were supporting him.
He had arrived in the town to take part in the wedding of former MLA B B Shivappa’s granddaughter.
Earlier, MLA H K Kumarswamy submitted a memorandum outlining the needs of the district to the chief minister upon his arrival at Sakleshpur.
Ministers Murugesh Nirani, C P Yogeeshwar, zilla panchayat vice-president Sulochana Ramakrishna, HUDA president Navile Annappa, ZP member Amit Shetty and others were present.
Lecturers’ strike
Speaking about the protest by PU college lecturers and principals, Gowda said the problem would be sorted out by Monday. The government has already announced 15 per cent interim relief.
He said the government was waiting for a report from the pay commission, following which a decision would be taken.
