Usha Rajagopalan, a member, said the lake was choked with untreated sewage water discharged from the surrounding residential buildings.

The trust, which was set up in June, last year, signed an MoU with the Palike to rejuvenate the lake. With an expenditure of Rs 1.35 crore, the BBMP engineers erected fence along the lake, built a walkway, a gazebo to enjoy the view of the surroundings, a toilet and an office for the PNLIT. The Palike will spend another Rs 30 lakh for lighting the walkway, she added.

Besides, the PNLIT and Palike were helped by the Enzen Solutions which has developed a ‘Nano-Nutrient Solution’, an indigenous technology to clean the water. Under the technology, micro-organisms would be released into the water that will help in cleaning the lake. In two months’ time, the lake was cleaned up.
