Last Updated 14 December 2011, 19:55 IST

Prof S Sampath, the organising secretary of the conference and Head, Department of Neurosurgery, told mediapersons here on Wednesday that Nimhans couldn’t organise the event due to logistic problems. But in the past two decades, Nimhans has pioneered in many innovative methods of treatment for neurological problems, he added.

“Nimhans was the first in the world to have integrated mental health and neurological sciences and neurosurgery under one roof,” he said.

The four-day international meet will discuss the advances in technology and management of patients with neurological diseases like brain tumour, head and spine injury, stroke, aneurysms, epilepsy and movement disorders.

Talks on varied topics like gamma knife radiosurgery, neuronal plasticity (adaptation of brain) and role of genetics in brain tumours will be delivered, he added.
