‘21st C biology proves Darwin theory wrong’
"Organisms do not inherit characteristics only through genes, but acquire them, too. And thus, Darwin’s theory of evolution does not fit with the latest findings and approach in biology,” said Prof Denis Noble, University of Oxford.
He was delivering the Plenary Lecture at the 57th Annual Conference of Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India (APPICON 2011). The conference, organised by the Department of Physiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, will continue till December 17.
Prof Noble produced a critique of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution that is considered to be the most accepted theory of human development so far.
“It is important to note that selection has never led to formation of a new species, as Darwin postulated. Selection operates as a purifying but not creative force,” he said.
He said Darwin looked at humans merely as biological beings, inheriting key characteristics in life through Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid (DNA). But studies show that some traits are passed on through other means like ribose nucleic acid too, proving Darwin wrong.
