Their dreams sizzle on untreaded lanes
No middle path
What happens when security of a middle class family, a profession in the most ‘popular and stable’ company and log book of a life don’t excite you? Better still, what happens when you meet madcaps who are willing to walk the distance with you for an unconventional dream? Preethi Nagaraj hears out the journey of four unusual Mysoreans.
Childhood — adolescence — adult — individual — senior citizen and then RIP.
Stages of life are way too predictable. Pattern won’t change. But, the fabric can!
While some go about life, just gathering currency notes, swanky cars and upmarket flats, travelling countries on conducted tours, Facebooking every moment spent on a holiday, saving any retrospection for post-retirement; there are the other category who realise their aspirations early on, and live to celebrate every moment without seeking conventional ‘security’.
Meet Jayanthi Ballal, Pooja Joshi, Snehal and Pran. The four individuals, despite managing other roles, they also manage to follow their heart, and sometimes wear it on their sleeves too. Else, how would the city find a place for its dancing feet, images of its bromide-hungry faces and designer wear to suit their Bollywood inspired bodies? Most importantly, how long would the toned bodies and flights of aspirations wait to grab a piece of metropolitan fame? Beyond Taalas and Needle Works co-exist together to give the city the ‘zing’ it awaited. Toned bodies have found a confident place, modelling scene in the city is all orgiastic now. Since its existence in 2010 October, the city’s youths have sure found a place where they can follow their unconventional dreams.
More threadbare detail would be, Beyond Taalas, the dance studio for almost every soul that wishes to shake a leg without the fear of being judged; for that aerobic enthusiast who dreams of achieving a Jane Fonda body. Women, girls, men, kids — they have received training from some of the renowned names in Bollywood.
While Jayanthi has been a fashionista and a designer herself with a boutique near Ballal Circle, covering the fashion lovers with some best garbs since a decade, Snehal (a ‘techie’) and Pooja (management graduate and Bharatanatyam dancer) are the dancing couple. They literally danced their way into each others’ heart, got married after their meeting at a salsa workshop and went on to set up Beyond Taalas. As the name suggests, this place is beyond convention. Pran works with Infosys and does fashion photography, which happens to be his passion. And, all of them are into choreography as well, organising shows and events, with ramp models adding spice to the event.
“We plan to create platforms, help people discover their passion and inspire them to follow their heart,” say Pooja and Snehal, while Jayanthi sees a clear sign of Mysore opening up to more vibrance in clothing line. “People don’t mind wearing new kinds of cuts and dresses, the city is sure up to a lot of change, and we will help the city find it’s style,” she says.
