Interpol secretary against CBI under Lokpal
Amid ongoing debate of making CBI an independent organisation, Interpol Secretary General Ronald K Noble, who is on a two-day tour of India opined that the probe agency in its present operational arrangement has an incredible track record.
“The CBI has a world wide reputation for its integrity, independence and impartiality," Noble said in a press conference while replying to a question related to the anti-corruption movement launched by Anna Hazare and his demand of making country’s premiere investigating agency independent of the government control.
Meanwhile, replying to volley of questions regarding India's most wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim, Noble said information sent from India has been shared with Pakistan which has said that “It was aware of its obligations with the Interpol”.
Noble also informed that CBI would be collaborating with Interpol to establish institutional mechanism for tackling telecom and cyber crimes.
Speaking on the issue, a senior official of CBI also opposed the idea of Team Anna to bring administrative aspects of the agency under Lokpal.
“This will make the functioning of agency more cumbersome, already we have to report to different ministries and Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) regarding organisation's administrative aspects, adding one more agency (Lokpal) will make it further complicated,” the official said.
The official further asserted that “there should not be any interference in the investigations carried out by the agency”.
