'Corrupt Maya, communal BJP will aid SP win'

Interview/ Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav, son of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has been touring the state extensively to bring his party back to power in 2012 Assembly polls, believes that Mayawati’s corruption and communal ideology of BJP are the major threat and issues in the state.

“You cannot imagine the extent of corruption by Mayawati. She has pushed the state decades back. Money meant for development is going to her coffers. BJP is still playing communal politics. These are the major issues that I am taking to people,” the  Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj told Khalid Akhter of Deccan Herald.

Akhilesh, an engineering graduate from University of Mysore, said he “toured 160 Assembly constituencies as part of his Kranti Rath Yatra and everywhere people complained about corrupt Mayawati government”. He said the people’s response is such that no one can stop his party from forming the next government with a clear majority.

The 38-year-old third time  MP, has “plans to tour all 403 Assembly constituencies with report card of Mayawati government”. Asked about the impact of Congress-Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance, he said: “It will benefit the alliance but how much we cannot say at the moment.”

Akhilesh, however, avoided an answer on the possibility of a post-poll tie up with Congress-RLD. “We will form the government on our own,” he reiterated.
