138 tanks to get lease of life
A sum of ` five crore will be released to each constituency
The project aiding the rejuvenation of tanks is taken up in the district at a rapid phase, however the success ratio of the work executed under the project does not exceed ten per cent.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju said that as many as 138 tanks will be rejuvenated in the district. Of which, as many as 123 tanks come under Panchayat Raj Engineering Division and 15 come under Minor Irrigation Department. A total of Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for the project and each Assembly constituency will get a sum of Rs five crore, he added.
Currently, the government has released a sum of Rs 5.67 crore as initial fund for Panchayat Raj Engineering Division (PRED) and Rs 1.45 crore for Minor Irrigation Department. The pending works will commence in the month of February, Reju informed.
There are five Assembly constituencies in the district-Udupi, Karkala, Kaup, Kundapur and Byndoor. Under PRED and Minor Irrigation Department the number of tanks for rejuvenation in Udupi Assembly constituency is 23, to be developed at cost of Rs 500 lakhs. Of which, as many as 18 tanks comes under PRED. A sum of Rs 370 lakh would be required for the rejuvenation. Five tanks come under Minor Irrigation Department and would be developed at the cost of Rs 130 lakhs. In Kaup Assembly constituency as many as 16 tanks would be developed by Panchayat Raj Engineering Division and four under Minor Irrigation department.
A total of Rs 500 lakhs has been earmarked for the purpose. In Kundapur constituency, 42 tanks would be developed.
In Byndoor, about 32 tanks will be rejuvenated. Of which as many as 30 tanks will be taken up by the Panchayat Raj Engineering Division and 21 tanks by the Minor Irrigation department.
In Udupi taluk, the rejuvenation of Neelavara Kere in Neelavara village, Yenagudde Devarakere at Karapady, Giliyaru Badamane Kere in Kota, Kottady Moodumandi Kere and Achlady Makkimane Devarakere in Vaddarse village and Mahalingeshwara temple Kere in Kajre have been completed.
In Kundapur taluk, the rejuvenation of Koravadi Harpan Kere in Kumbahsi, Vadvady Avarukere in Vakvadi village, Thotadabettu Dasakere in Thekatte village and the Kodaggi Kunjinkodlu Kere in Siddapura village have been completed. However, there is no progress in Karkala taluk.
The tanks to be developed in Udupi taluk include Aroor Kurukunjikere in Kunjalu, Kannaru Korati Kere in Cherkadi, Baikadi Kameshwara Kere in Haradi, Belmaru Madaga Kere in Uppuru, Mypadi Kere in Havanje, Adandalu tank in Bairampalli, Padooru Kere in Majur, Pangala Brandi Kere in Innanje, Pond near Vishnumurthy temple are among others.
In Kundapur taluk, Horni Chetteri temple tank, in Aloor, Kaikana Kere in Vandse, Matada Kere in Beejadi village, Madivala Kere in Mayyadi village, Mabli Kere in Abladi, Haladi Kere in Haladi will see a facelift.
In Karkala taluk, Mudardy Jakkanady Madaga Kere and Kukkuje Padapakyaru Madaga Kere in Kadthala, Shivapura Nagabrahma temple tank in Shivapura, Marne Nandary in Sukudibettu, Jarkala Beliyarabettu Kere in Shirlal and Mudar Kadthala Kere in Mudar will be developed.
