Capsicum brings smile on his face
In 15 gunte land, this farmer has been fetching Rs 7.5 lakh income by growing capsicum using polysheets. Parameshwarappa of Devanoor in Kadur taluk is a model for other farmers.
Devanoor and surrounding areas receive scanty rainfall and the land looks dry with lack of irrigation facilities. Those who had borrowed loan to dig borewells, have also failed to grow crops. On the direction of Kadur Horticulture department deputy director Vedamurthy, Parameshwarappa started growing capsicum and is leading a happy life.
He said the horticulture department sanctioned Rs 35,000 for the purchase of polysheets, 5,000 for seeds, 3,000 for insecticides, Rs 2 lakh for the processing unit.
“I started growing capsicum in 15 gunte land. Now I have extended the area of cultivation,” he added.
Parameshwarappa uses drip irrigation to water the pants. The plants starts flowering within 30 days and later starts yielding. The capsicum plants are normally affected with ‘Booduroga,’ ‘Uduruva roga’ and ‘Kai Koraka roga.’
One can start plucking the capsicum once in 15 days for 10 months. A farmer can fetch 30 tonne capsicum for ten months. One kg of capsicum fetches Rs 20 in the market. The farmer will have to spend Rs two lakh while growing for the first time. However, later the expenditure reduces.
With the help of Parameshwarappa, few farmers in and around Devanoor have also started growing capsicum. For details one can contact Parameshwarappa at 8762243091.
