Nigerian held for using expired visa
A Nigerian national was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Aiport on Sunday after the CISF personnel apprehended him when he arrived at the airport to board a flight to Mumbai. His visa had expired on November 2, 2010. The Nigerian was identified as Chidi Amedi.
The CISF personnel suspected something fishy when he was getting his boarding pass at terminal 1D. Amedi was at the airport to take Go Airways flight No. 48-513 to Mumbai. Though the passport of Amedi was valid till January 7, 2012, he was asked to provide an alternate identity proof. While scanning his documents, the CISF officials found that his visa had expired in November 2010.
Amedi later produced a letter of identification issued by the Nigerian Embassy. However, the passport number printed on the letter was different than that on the original passport of the accused. Amedi was later on handed over to Delhi Police which booked him under sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and section 14 of the Foreign Act, a CISF official said.
