Hundreds of them played, sang and danced even as they learnt a lesson or two. The atmosphere had even teachers and the block education officer riveted for more than three hours.

The workshop was organised under the leadership of Swaroopa of the Swaroopa Study Centre, Mangalore by the district unit of the Sevadal. The concept was by Gopadkar of the Study Centre and Chetan, for SSLC students.

Memory tips, setting the tunes of popular songs for lessons and other creative ideas are part of the programme. The children recollected names of 50 objects and their serial numbers with the help of memory tips, much to the surprise of the gathering.

Addressing the students, the programme co-ordinators said they can remember their lessons easier by forming their own codes rather than learning them by rote.

“Children can easily remember if they pay attention in the class. But the problem is they don’t do it,” said the programme co-ordinators.

Concentration can be achieved through creative methods, they advised the students.

Students entertained the gathering through mimicry, ‘ashtavadhana’ and doll shows, besides the memory test.

Earlier, H D Govindaiah, Deputy Director of the Department of Public Instruction, inaugurated the programme.

He praised the members of Swaroopa Study Centre, Mangalore, for their efforts to spread these learning techniques to children throughout the State, through a
jatha.

K S Nagaraj Gowda, district officer of Akshara Dasoha, R V Ramachandra, President of the district unit of the High School Teachers Association, besides the heads of various educational institutions in the city were present on the occasion.
