CBI to file charge sheet in Adarsh Housing case
The CBI on Tuesday informed the Bombay High Court that it would be filing the charge sheet against former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan and 13 others in the infamous Adarsh Housing scam in eight weeks.
The Defence Ministry that had staked a claim over the south Mumbai plot on which the swanky 31-storey Adarsh building stands had asked the CBI last January to look into the matter a year ago.
A formal case was registered against 14 persons comprising former chief minister Chavan, defence officials and bureaucrats. The matter had come up for hearing and CBI counsel D N Salvi further informed the Division Bench that a separate charge sheet would be filed in the case of 'missing Adarsh Housing files,' within a month.
I-T department counsel Suresh Kumar told the court that the I-T investigation wing had already started its inquiries to ferret out the antecedents of society members and their source of income. “Scrutiny notices have been issued to several members and till date nine members have given details of their sources of income,” I-T counsel Kumar said.
