Govt staff to get CWG flats
The now abandoned flats at the Commonwealth Games village, constructed for lodging participants of the 2010 sports spectre, will have new boarders.
The Centre on Tuesday announced the flats belonging to Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will be allocated to Central and State government employees, at market rates.
Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy on Tuesday said in the Lok Sabha that the DDA will allocate the flats with the Urban Development Ministry approval.
Apart from eligible employees of the Central and State government, applications have been received from public sector undertakings employees as well, the minister said. Of the 1,168 flats constructed, 711 belong to the DDA and the rest to private builders.
“A decision has been taken to dispose of these flats (DDA share) to Central and State government departments at market rates. Around 100 flats of all categories would be put to auction,” Roy said.
Samajwadi Party MLA Shailender Kumar had demanded allocation of these flats to members of Parliament.
“The flats built for housing participants of CWG have not been allotted to anyone. I want that these should be allotted. Several honourable members of the Lok Sabha are interested in these,” Kumar had told Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath. The process is subject to Speaker Meira Kumar’s discretion, Nath had said.
Roy said the Urban Development Ministry had cancelled the allotment of accommodation units to Kendriya Bhandar in compliance with the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation in this regard. Roy said a sum of Rs 5.35 crore was owed by the Kendriya Bhandar while the ministry had earlier managed to recover a sum of over Rs 2.44 crore from it.
