Finishing School for teachers (FST) is a course designed by the Academy for Creative Teaching, (ACT) Bangalore. It intends to upgrade teacher quality to international standards.
This training enables aspiring teachers to gain a knowledge of effective teaching techniques. FST does not replicate the B Ed course, but complements it in many ways. It is a comprehensive course that focuses upon fine tuning the personality, skills, attitude and professional aptitude of teachers.
FST focuses upon developing ethics in teaching, professionalism in teachers, creativity in teaching style, team spirit and team management skills, skills in strategic planning, and competency in pedagogic teaching. The course nurtures personality development by enhancing communication and presentation skills, narration styles, concept-based teaching styles and other life-skills.
Aspiring candidates will have to clear the entrance test. The FST course comprises six general papers and one subject specific paper. The teachers are thoroughly oriented to understand child behaviour and learning styles through training in mentoring and counseling and classroom management and life-skills.
Emphasis will be on activity-based learning. Here, learning will be more experiential, reflective and collaborative. There will be seminars and paper presentations apart from assignments and internals. The students will also be working on application of technology in learning and teaching.
There will be periodical field training and projects with ACT associated schools. Successful students will be helped in getting placements in schools associated with ACT, based on their performance.
