A drunken 82-year-old man died of burns after falling into a bonfire at his house at Palam in south west Delhi, police said Saturday.
A drunken 82-year-old man died of burns after falling into a bonfire at his house at Palam in south west Delhi, police said Saturday.
Kesari Nand Kaushik, who lived alone at Sadh Nagar in Palam, was warming himself in front of a bonfire on the chilly Friday night when he toppled forward and fell into it.
Kaushik’s wife and children had left him 35 years ago and he lived alone in his single-room house. He was an habitual drinker, said a police officer. “Kaushik was drinking from Friday afternoon,” said the officer.
Police sad the senior citisen had lit a bonfire in front of his wooden bed and was having drink and food when he fell into the fire. Hearing Kaushik’s screams, neighbours rushed to his flat only to find him in fire. They doused the blaze and informed the police.
“We rushed him to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where died of burns. After post mortem, his body was handed over to his wife and kids who live in Chandni Chowk,” said the officer.
