DH PHOTO BY CHAMAN GAUTAMTo express their concern over global warming and  care for the environment, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Sadhya (contemporary dance organisation) presented a contemporary dance production titled ‘We Can Make the Difference.’

The packed dance performance at Kamani Auditorium recently witnessed people from all walks of life who enjoyed the message sent across through the medium of music and dance and forced the viewers to think about this burning issue.

The performance aimed at inciting the audience to meet the global, economic and social needs while creating opportunities for future generation.

The excited audience applauded every time the group evolved with beautiful formations. A transparent curtain almost gave a 3D appearance with every act coming to life. A college student Dipti Sabbarwal, says, “It is amazing to see a life like performance on stage with perfect co-ordination and beautiful movements in complete synchronisation with music and special effects. The cause of spreading awareness for global warming adds on to the whole experience.”
And the evening did compel its viewers to think once again about the forgotten harmony with nature. Khushboo Gupta, an artiste with the group, says, “My friends, family and students are here to watch the dance performance because they believe in the relevance of the issue.

The moment we step out of our homes, all of us realise the significance of environment and its protection.” About the interest of the audience in contemporary dance more than the theme. Khushboo adds, “Even if the audience doesn’t believe in the importance of working now to save our future, I am sure that after seeing our performance they will start thinking.”

Akram Shaik, who is also a part of the dance troupe, says, “We have tried to make an effort to direct the thought of people towards this global issue and if they start working in this direction, it will serve our purpose.”

Sadhya’s thematic choreography brought its vision on stage through specially composed music and dance.

Founder and choreographer of Sadhya, Santosh Nair makes a point, “The subject of saving the planet is appropriate and specially in these present times and that is why we thought of choreographing a complete production dedicated to environmental care.”  The choice of contemporary style was also thought over by Santosh who further says, “We chose this style because expression of joy of being in the company of nature or away from it requires free movement in steps, which is offered best by contemporary style of dance.”
