The A-Z of New Year resolutions. Ready for the challenge?
A – Pursue an art. It could be anything like drawing, painting or music, depending on your interest. Strive to learn it as a hobby and then excel in it.
B – Befriend books. They will be your trusted friends in the journey of life.
C – Creativity should be the key word of all that you do. Try making new things and doing things in more interesting ways.
D – Discipline leads to success. When you follow a certain course and pattern, success is sure to follow.
E – Get eco-friendly. Realise the importance of trees and shun polythene bags.
F – Review your food habits. Plan a weekly menu with your parents and make meal-time more appealing. Cut down on junk food and cut out the fuss!
G – Grandparents are great. Spend as much time as you can with them. Learn from their rich experiences, and shower all your love and respect on them, for you mean the world to them.
H – Take care of your personal hygiene. It’s an essential requirement of good health.
I – Be independent. Do not depend on your parents or older siblings to do your chores.
J – Maintain a journal. Jot down daily events, major happenings and your feelings too. You will be surprised how many joyful memories can be recalled later.
K – Learn to be kind, especially towards those who are younger and weaker than you. Be kind to animals, birds and plants.
L – Litter is taboo. Don’t assume that a carelessly tossed chocolate wrapper is no big deal. Just as every drop of water makes an ocean, each one’s contribution in keeping the surro-undings clean does matter.
M – is for Management, of time and money. It does not imply that you follow a rigid time-table or live on a shoe-string budget, but start setting aside some time for constructive activities. Management of money can be learnt by maintaining accounts of your pocket money.
N – ‘Neat and tidy’ should be your mantra. You could start by keeping your den, clean.
O – Opportunities should not be missed. Grab the good chances that come your way.
Obstacles? Don’t let them hinder you. Chin up and face them, bravely.
P – Postponement is an ugly word. Whether it’s your homework, a school project or any odd job that’s been on your mind, start on it right away. Avoid delay.
Q – Questions. When in doubt, ask. Do not fear to seek answers.
R – Read. Make it a habit. Start with newspapers, magazines and books that interest you. Reading is a great way to improve your vocabulary.
S – Studies are not to be neglected. To make life easy, set aside time every day to learn and revise your lessons.
T – Care for your teeth. You really don’t want to be suffering painful cavities, do you? Brush your teeth twice – every morning and night.
U – Use your talents well. You are the ultimate judge of your ability and aspirations, so make sure you use your talents wisely.
V – Value yourself. Self-esteem is the best gift you can ever give yourself.
W – Waste not, want not. Be it water, food, money, paper or precious time, don’t waste any.
X – Express yourself with confidence. Though this doesn’t mean you should ride roughshod over others, you should speak up for what you believe is right, fair and correct.
Y – Always have a yearning for more and more learning. Never tire of learning at any age.
Z – Whatever you do, do with zeal. Put your heart and soul into it. Give it your 100 per cent and you will feel a deep sense of satisfaction.
