Astronomy course

A short duration, 3-days-a-week, evening course in basic Astronomy called ''General Astronomy'' will be conducted at MP Birla Institute of Fundamental Research (MPBIFR), Bangalore from January 10, 2012 to February 2, 2012. This course is open to all with no restrictions on age or educational background. The classes will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The syllabus includes the basics involved in understanding astronomical concepts like identification of constellations, measurement of brightness and distances of stars and so on. Interactive lectures for all theory classes are delivered at the premises of the Institute.

Publishing programme

The Seagull School of Publishing, Kolkata has announced a certificate programme in publishing that includes editing, design and production. The application process begins on January 1, 2012.

The last date to apply is February 15, 2012. Admission to the programme requires a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Individuals who want to explore publishing as a career or who are already a part of the publishing industry can apply for the course.

Publishing entrepreneurs, professional and amateur writers, graphic designers, mid-career professionals are also encouraged to apply. The course is scheduled from April to July 2012. Knowledge conference

FLAME is organising the Knowledge Globalization Conference 2012 (KGC 2012) from January 5 to 7, 2012 at the FLAME Campus, Pune, in association with Suffolk University, Sawyer Business School, Boston, USA & Knowledge Globalization Institute, USA.

The Symposium will bring together researchers and practitioners from across the globe. The key objective of the forum is to discuss contemporary issues in knowledge globalisation that influence business, education, government, society, and the economy.

Counselling in nine languages

AVAGMAH Online School (AOS) has announced career counseling for students in nine languages. AOS has deployed dedicated student counselors to handle queries from students in English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Bihari and Nepali.

Free coaching for IITJEE

Forum for Excellence in Education,  a trust for promoting quality in education, will provide free coaching for IITJEE (2012-2014) by selecting up to 30 super merit students (SMS-30).  SMS-30 of Bangalore is a project to recognise and reward merit.

A Talent Search Test  (TST)  will be conducted to select merit students. They will go through a comprehensive learning experience and will be ready not only for IITJEE, but also for other entrance examinations like AIEEE, CET etc., in addition to the Board Examinations
Students appearing for SSLC/10th exams in March/April, 2012 can register for the TST, by e-mail, by post or in person at the Forum office. Last date for registration is January 7, 2011.
