Awareness on female foeticide
Deputy commissioner Dr P C Jaffer said female foeticide has resulted in difference of male-female ratio, which would have a drastic impact on the society in future.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on the Act against foetus gender detection organised for radiologists, gynaecologists and voluntary organisations in Mandya on Tuesday. Female foeticide cannot be curbed only by legal procedures but only with the cooperation of doctors, who have to give importance to humanity and social responsibility.
Health and family welfare officer Dr Marigowda stressed on the importance of creating awareness on female foeticide and its effects in the society.
RCH officer Dr Somashekar said there were 24 registered scanning centres in Mandya. Malavalli has five, Panadavapura four, Nagamangala three and K R Pet taluk three scanning centres. There are no registered scanning centres at Srirangapatna and Maddur taluks.
The male-female ratio stood at 1000:986 in 2001 and 1000:989 in 2011.
In the age group of 0-6 months, the ratio was 1000:934 in 2001; 1000:933 in 2011. Stating that the figures were alarming, he said if it remains the same for another decade it would sound the death knell for the very existence of female race.
