City will be foggy for 2 more days

New Delhi, December 28, DHNS:

The fog condition reduced visibility to 200 metres in Delhi on Wednesday morning slowing down vehicular movement.

The Met Department has said the weather will remain similar and fog will reduce visibility for two more days. The minimum temperature rose by one notch to 5.2 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal, while the maximum was at 22.3 degrees.

 “The minimum temperature will be four degrees and maximum will be 21 degree Celsius. Afternoon will be clear,” forecast a Met Department official. On December 31, the minimum temperature will vary between five and six degrees while maximum temperature will be 22 to 23 degrees. 

The official added that ground frost would occur in some parts of Delhi on Thursday.

The coldest day of this season was recorded on December 25 when mercury reduced to 2.9 degrees. The minimum temperature had come down to 5.2 degrees during last December. Over the past decade, the lowest minimum for December was recorded in 2005 when the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.3 degrees.

Rail traffic hit

The foggy conditions prevailing in North and eastern part of the country continue to paralyse railway traffic. Several trains were running behind schedule on Wednesday. The trains were running late by 5 to 20 hours. Brahmputra Mail is running late by almost 24 hours, it was scheduled to leave from Delhi at 6 am on Wednesday but now it has been rescheduled for 3.30 am on Thursday. Amristar Garib Rath which was scheduled to leave at 11.35 am is rescheduled for 2.30 am on Thursday.

Delhi-bound Islampur Magadh Express was rescheduled from its expected arrival at 11.45 to 3.15 am on Thursday. Similarly, the timing of Jabalpur-New Delhi Express was rescheduled and is now expected to reach New Delhi by 4.45 am on Thursday. West Bengal Sampark Kranti Express, which was scheduled for 7.10 pm, is rescheduled for 3.40 pm on Thursday. The Northern Railways has cancelled over 20 long-distance trains till January end. Several other trains have been cancelled to maintain the traffic condition and ensure safety of the passengers.
